Anne Hathaway blasts ‘complicity of the white women’ behind Alabama abortion ban

Liberal actress Anne Hathaway is taking aim at pro-life white women for being complicit in the “unnecessary and avoidable deaths” of poor and black women by supporting Alabama’s abortion ban.

Ms. Hathaway wrote an Instagram post over the weekend calling attention to the fact that Alabama’s new anti-abortion bill was sponsored by Republican state Rep. Terri Collins and signed into law by Republican Gov. Kay Ivey, both of whom are white women. The law is the most restrictive in the country, outlawing virtually all abortions in the state, including in cases of rape and incest, and imposing possible jail time for abortion providers.

Ms. Hathaway argued that the law will undoubtedly result in the deaths of “poor and/or black” women.

“Yes the anti-abortion movement is primarily about controlling women’s bodies under the premise (for many, sincere) of saving lives, and yes this law is primarily the work of white men HOWEVER a white woman sponsored the bill and a white woman signed it into law,” the “Ocean’s Eight” star wrote to her 14.3 million Instagram followers.

“As we’re resisting, let us also call out the complicity of the white women who made this awful moment possible, and which — make no mistake — WILL lead to the unnecessary and avoidable deaths of women, a disproportionate number of whom will be poor and/or black,” she continued. “Speak up. Show up. Don’t give up” Ms. Hathaway ended her post by encouraging fans to donate to a number of pro-abortion organizations, including Planned Parenthood and the National Network of Abortion Funds.
