Rescue All Minors And Their Coach In Thailand

Mexico City, 2018

A special operations force of the Thai Navy reported on Tuesday that 12 children and their trainer from the flooded cave where they were trapped for more than two weeks in the north of the country have been rescued.

With this they put an end to a complicated operation to bring to the surface the young players and their coach. The special force said the last four boys and the trainer were rescued on Tuesday, after other rescues in the previous two days, and that everyone is safe. He added that they are still awaiting the departure of a doctor and three divers from the Navy who stayed with the children before they left the cave.

The other eight of the 12 children left the cave between Sunday and Monday. The seas, on the third day of the intricate operation, the authorities removed those trapped in a small dry area in the depths of the cave. Work began shortly after 10:00 am and involved 19 divers, explained the governor of the Chiang Rai region, Narongsak Osatanakorn.

The first eight rescued were in “good spirits” and a strong immune system because they play football, said a medical officer. The doctors are cautious about their condition because of the risk of infections and the children are isolated in the hospital although they received a reward: bread spread with chocolate, as they had requested.

The difficult situation lived by the boys and their coach kept Thailand and much of the world in suspense, from the devastating news of their disappearance to the group’s raw video images when they were found 10 days later by two British divers. They were trapped in the cave Tham Luan Nang Non, which was flooded by monsoon rains during their visit, after a training match on June 23. The first four rescued, who are between 12 and 16 years old, can now take normal food, reported Jesada Chokdumrongsuk, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Public Health, at a press conference earlier on Tuesday.

Two of the boys could have a lung infection, but in general the eight children rescued first are “healthy and smiling,” he added. “The children are soccer players so they have a high immune system,” said the official. “Everyone is excited and happy to be away, but they will be evaluated by a psychiatrist.”

His departure from the hospital could take at least seven days, Jesada added. Family members have been able to see some of the children through the glass in the area where they are isolated, the official said, adding that doctors could allow children to walk around their beds on Tuesday.
