Paso Nuevo, the GALA Youth Arts Program, is pleased to present “Desde mis Ojos”, an original production that will take place on Friday, December 15, 2017, at 8:00 p.m., at the GALA Theater. Presented in Spanish with surtitles in English, the work is directed by Mauricio Pita. A colloquium will be held after the performance with the young artists. Admission is free.
For her part, the Executive Director of the Office for Latino Affairs of the Mayor of DC, Jackie Reyes, assures that the creative work of the Paso Nuevo Program students, executed by GALA, illustrates how art can change the lives of boys. “Therefore, we celebrate the diversity, the strong cultural identity and the example that these young leaders give to their communities and schools.”
The participants of Paso Nuevo are Melissa Cadena, Estefany Chávez, Moisés Cisneros, Diana Contreras, Elena Encarnación, Moisés García, Fátima González, Vidal González, Kimberly Hernández, Fayola Jean, Tania Latin, Marselina López-Fuentes, Moris Marcia-Martínez, Brenda Mijango, Jonathan Miranda, Karte Mponda, Doanna Ngyuyen, Patricia Riley, Marco Rivera, William Sanchez, Ange Paola Toguemtameching, and Ericka Valencia. “Desde mis Ojos’, tells the story of a young woman from El Salvador who recounts her trip, crossing the borders to reach the United States. Each stop along its path confronts the perspectives of our young people on issues related to love, racism, self-esteem, immigration, and how to find solidarity and companionship in a dangerous world.
The director of Paso Nuevo, Mauricio Pita, affirms that “Desde mis Ojos’ is a series of short scenes that reflect the scope of the adolescent experience. The show is the culmination of a three-month process that brought together young people of diverse ethnic backgrounds from across the Washington, DC area to explore self-expression through theater in a safe space. ” GALA is located at 3333 Calle 14, northwest, in Washington, DC.
Parking is available in the Giant Supermarket garage behind the theater on Park Road.
